This post is about a most serious topic: Global Warming.
In case you haven’t heard yet, hackers broke into the East Anglia Climatic Research Unit (CRU) e-mail system. The CRU has been a leader in Climate Change research for quite some time. The hackers took a collection of the e-mails and posted them online, claiming that those specific e-mails are proof that the CRU scientists and researchers have been publishing (or making up) fake data all along.
A lot of people have been getting up in arms over this issue lately. Many of the skeptics or those who don’t believe in Global Warming are taking this as the situation turning in their favor. Some have been as childish to display an “I’m right, you’re wrong” gloating mentality over the situation.
However, it is apparent that they have not taken certain things into consideration.
- How do they know the e-mails were not altered; that certain parts were not omitted or rephrased?
- How do they know the e-mails were not taken out of context?
Note that the hackers only stole SOME e-mails, they did not take ALL of them. - Have they bothered to compare the allegedly false CRU data to any others?
CRU is not the only group of scientists focused on Global Warming/Climate Change research. If the data compiled by research teams in other countries, labs, or organizations show enough similarities to the CRU data, it would eliminate all possibilities that the CRU data was faked.
Let’s take this another step. People don’t believe Global Warming is a real thing, or they don’t believe it’s a serious thing.
- Consider the number of animals that have gone extinct or currently face extinction: thousands.
- Consider the obvious signs of pollution and waste, and the health problems they are linked to.
- Consider all of the [illegal] deforestation and habitat destruction.
- Consider the amount of transportation (car, plane, ship, bus) and pollution-creating factories.
There are even research programs available where anyone (and I mean ANYONE) can actually go into the field with the scientists and help them conduct their studies on the rain forests or the declining cheetah population or the dying coral reefs. So, you can see and experience for yourself first-hand how the data is actually collected.
My question to all Climate Change skeptics is this:
How many have to die before you will start to believe that Global Warming is a REAL and SERIOUS thing?
How many of the world’s species must be completely wiped out?
How much of the earth’s natural resources have to be completely obliterated?
If you were the last living thing standing, would you still refuse to believe?
It seems to me that there are too many people out there who will never believe, no matter how much proof may be given to them. I am sure that even if the human race became a critically endangered species, all forests were barren land and the skies were completely blackened with smog, that some people would still refuse to believe the environment is in serious trouble. One day, perhaps in the distant future, you (or your descendants) will want something that comes from nature. A fruit, a fabric, a fuel–and it won’t be there anymore. Unless you can claim the role of a god, how do you plan to create something from nothing?
