This is the Spill That Never Ends, Yes it Goes On and On, My Friends…

It’s officially the 100th day since the Gulf Coast Oil Spill disaster started.

What does this mean?

Well, to break down the news as of late: the clean up is still going on and most likely won’t end for a long time yet, endangered baby turtles are being released into the gulf (despite the fact that there is still oil), and the highly damnable BP chief exec, Tony Hayward, is finally on his way out (he quit! huzzah!).

Ah, but wait, there’s more…

There may be a bit of good news for the wetlands, particularly the growth of marsh grasses, which you can find out about here. However, there is always a black cloud hiding behind every silver lining.

For all of you beach-goers, you may have to wait years before visiting beaches along the Gulf Coast again, thanks to all the toxic pollutants that will take a long time to clean up. Oh, and if you expect to have your questions answered, good luck with that.

On top of all that, there is at least one new oil spill happening in the gulf. Apparently, an abandoned well was hit by a barge. Yeah, offshore drilling was such a GREAT idea…(sarcasm intended).

My suggestion to those that want to help: if you can’t go to the Gulf and volunteer with the cleanup, then try cleaning up your own life–eliminate the need for oil and aim for renewable energy or vehicles that are electric, hybrid, or don’t require fuel at all (such as a bicycle). If a change is going to happen, it’s going to have to start with us.
